Newly Constructed Blocks of Apartments (21Nr Total)
Complaints of high levels of moisture/condensation/mould.
A programme of investigative surveys set-up in each apartment. Ambient RH (Relative Humidity) studies done in all apartments, as was surface and in-depth moisture (Equilibrium Relative Humidity) readings taken to establish presence of any trapped moisture giving rise to cold spots and condensation, giving rise to mould.
After carrying out individual moisture surveys in each of the 21 apartments, it became apparent that a number of apartments had been suffering from high levels of moisture that had become trapped behind the walls and under the floor coverings. Given the nature of the impermeable floor finishes, the normal drying process was becoming significantly impaired increasing moisture levels within the property. On top of humidity caused from everyday occupancy, mould was occurring due to the build-up of humidity.
Moisture Trapped within Cavity
Cavity wall areas were Injection dried using a dessicant dehumdifier attached to a turbine unit and manifold. Warm dry air was pumped-in under pressure into the cavities allowing airflow to perculate through and dry through evaporation areas of wet mineral wool cavity wall insulation. Moist air re-entering the room was processed by room dehumidifiers.
